Having this issue in Natty, updated a few days ago. This seemed to be
fixed in Maverick but has reverted to its old ways.
I'd argue that this is an accessibility issue -- many users select a
large cursor theme for more visibility, but this is of no use if it
doesn't apply everywhere.

Can't change cursor style
I just updated to Natty.
In my theme customisation menu, I can see cursors as I saw in previous versions
of ubuntu - only now I cannot change from the default cursor at all, even if I
switch to metacity and back to compiz (cursor is changed only in metacity, but
returns to the default in compiz)
This bug effects me, too. Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE.

If it helps, KDE does not appear to be affected. However, the nvidia
driver does seem buggy in other ways. For example, my computer froze
when resizing a transparent terminal window in KDE. That is probably a

Just found out it's affecting my intel i915 onboard card. And this
happens intermittently. Sometimes it will be butter smooth, other times
it will be quite sluggish.
It's pretty safe to assume this is not Nvidia's problem :)

It doesn't seem to be specific with nVidia, I'm using ATI Radeon HD 3470
and is experiencing the same problem. Laggy, always crashing and
mouse+hot corner doensn't work any more. It was all perfect in 0.8.6. I
cant understand why Ubuntu includes a testing version of compiz in their
11.04 release. W

When attempting to add a new profile while using flat-file configuration
backend with ccsm .9.4, a new profile is actually created in
.config/compiz, but the menu bar to select it in ccsm is blank, and does
not function properly.

Firstly: I went into the Compiz Settings manager and disabled window
decorations. Window dragging was immediately improved. Strange enough, I
haven't been able to reproduce this (even after re-enabling it).

Same problem here with Compiz 0.9. Moving windows around is very laggy
and so are all the other animations with Compiz. I have a Nvidia GTX 460
and using the proprietary Nvidia driver.

1) apply something to install at Synaptic,
2) change back to Firefox,
3) wait for Synaptic to end the download of the packages, in this moment it
would steal the focus,

I realize that this is listed as "fixed Released", however on a brand
new upgrade to 11.04, my windows all open up underneath the Unity
Launcher (regardless of whether I've repositioned them or not). This is
under the "Ubuntu" login session (so I'm assuming that it's under Unity,
and not Unity-2D)

launcher icon having multiple windows but adding a keybouard shortcut or
screen edge does not work.

on. Try booting it up with the ThinkPad's display closed, then it should

Confirm. Bug still exists in 11.04 Release (Update from 10.10)
NVIDIA 330M, proprietary driver 270. All animation is smooth and fast, except
windows movement.

No, this is a compiz issue. Focusing and raising windows are done by
Compiz entirely. As far as I know, an application can only request for
attention by setting some WM property. Then the window manager decides
what to do with it.

Scenario: I am using Firefox and decide to open up Banshee to navigate
my library to change tracks. I open it from the sound indicator and it
pops up. I decide against it after all and decide to close it to get
back to work. A

To make it work anyway, I desactivated the recommanded nvidia driver and
activate the 173 version instead.
After a reboot, I was in 640x480 so in Ubuntu classic session I went to
nvidia settings clicked on save to xorg.conf and just previewed the
change, launch the xorg.c
Only had the OS installed for 24 hours and this issue is driving me
bats! Message #29 suggests I won't get ahead any better by changing
drivers, so I'll just hang fire and hope for a fix.
I have been in a habit of running most windows maximised and "tab +
alt"ing through them while I am working.
Adding UNITY_FORCE_START=1 to /etc/environment as suggested worked for me as
well.

I would like to comment on this by saying that i also find sometimes the
apps to spill over to other workspaces,
and they get stretched to the extreme between two adjacent workspaces,
something like the app is
getting sucked into a work hole.
