The update-alternatives solution, however, does not correct the size
aspect of the cursor theme.
I chose DMZ-Black medium for my (then) karmic install on a netbook.
The theme migrated correctly until natty, where the symptoms desctibed

Well, the problem returned. After some hours of using compiz, wobbly
window movement became choppy again. A compiz --replace helps for some
time, but after some time working, moving windows will become quite
annoying again.

Hopefully the patch is cherrypicked and lands in an SRU for the 2.6.38.x
branch.

The bug really does exist, at least in 10.04. The screencast shows what
is happening. The animation for focus in the compiz animation plugin

the back window gets
By contrast, this second screencast shows how it really should behave.
This is the good behavior which you get when you close the rear window

I have never used that indicator on the two machines that deal with the

The VDPAU problem on your desktop might be fixed in the just-released
NVIDIA 270.41.19 pre-release driver. It supposedly fixes a bug in the
VDPAU presentation queue that could cause temporary hangs.
I'm not sure about the main problem on your other machine.
