Same story, but with even better hardware: Intel i7 at 3.4 Ghz with 16 Gb RAM and a nVidia Corporation GF104 [GeForce GTX 460] I'm also finding when running glxgears, that nothing at all comes up (no window with gears and no output in terminal), UNTIL i ctrl-c and it quits. It reports ~16.000 FPS
