I've successfully narrowed down the cause of this, and found a workaround - for my systems. I'm unsure if this will fix things for anyone else, however. I did find some items surprising here, and they may warrant a deeper look. This all came down to USB HID mouse sampling rates. The logitech

Hello, I can confirm that this is indeed a mouse-related problem. On my laptop, I have no lagging issues when dragging a window with the touchpad. However, when using my mouse (Razer DeathAdder), moving windows is very slow and choppy. Also the mousepoll options trick doesn't seem to work for

Sorry spoke too fast, I needed to fully reboot my computer for the options trick to work ,but it did indeed solve the issue. Simply unplugging the mouse and replugging wasn't enough (even doing modprobe usbhid mousepoll=10 as suggested on the quake-related page linked above did not work either).
