I confirm. Also on NVIDIA, same driver version (280.13).
This bug is new to Ubuntu 11.10. It was OK in Ubuntu 11.04. Wine version
is irrelevant; I'm using 1.3.32 and 1.3.14 concurrently and they both
exhibit the same behaviour.

Reopening the bug for unity-2d since it was fixed in unity-2d's metacity

Not fixed for me either... :-(
I am running the 32 bits 3.0.0-12-generic-pae kernel on 11.10, and this happens
twice a day.
I always switch to tty1 and kill X, but this is very bad.

Thanks for bringing that up - had the bug you duped, (against unity-2d in
11.10+)

Public bug reported:
When running the Ubuntu 3D desktop (with Unity 3D and compiz), my system
draws 3W more power when idle than when I run unity2d+metacity. This is
a 25% increase in power consumption vs. idle draw with wireless on, and
a 33% increase over idle draw with wireless off.
This is
targeted to precise and marked 'high', as part of the focus on power
savings for this cycle.

Hmm, sorry about that, my script seems to have picked
cairo-dock-plugins-main as the package.

I can confirm that bug. It occurs on my machine on every cube rotation
event. It is really annoying bug! I tried with fglrx and radeon, both
the same problem.

The message I'm started to get in 11.04, and even more in 11.10 is that
Ubuntu doesn't care about there power users anymore. Sorry everybody,
just hope it gets fixed by luck in 12.04. This issue doesn't affect the
out of box experience, someone has to change a setting to expose this.

Changing
Changing project to something invalid briefly because launchpad seems to
have cached the old (wrong) project title for resizeinfo.

Hmm, that looks like a Launchpad bug. Display info on resize similar to
metacity. This project is a mirror of should actually read Compiz
Resize Info Plugin

I am running unity 4.24.0, and I can confirm that pressing F11 twice in
Chromium fixed the window stacking problem. When this stacking problem
occurs, I need to minimize each open window in order to get back to the
desktop before I can use the unity launcher to switcher.
