compiz --replace works for me in that it gets rid of the window
slowness, but doing that causes the much more severe bug 903512 making
it impossible to switch workspaces without a complete graphics freeze,
so it's not really a fix.

Handing this bug over to smspillaz. He says he has a better fix than
mine in the pipeline for Ubuntu 12.04. And we can't accept both fixes
because they overlap and conflict.

Looks like it will always crash after running "compiz --replace", but
since I undid the X updates, it won't happen so long as you don't switch
window managers or restart Compiz.
Which is unfortunate since compiz needs to be restarted every few hours
otherwise window movement becomes slow.

In the "Expo" view for the viewport switcher of Compiz (desktop wall
display) you can drag windows via mouse to different viewports.
When moving the mouse to the edges of the screen while "holding" a

only downside for me is that the window resizing isn't making any
difference. I've tried different themes and even stretched windows
across to the second desktop and the titlebars are still frozen:(
