I got similar problems using single monitor configuration, just after upgraded
my ATI card driver to the latest AMD propietary driver (12.2). Compiz used
50-80% of my CPU.
Before I used AMD propietary driver (12.1) without experiencing this problem.
So I consider this as a regression.

After my last posting, I found out, that installer went for nvidia
driver - nvidia-common.
When I tried nvidia-common (not installed per default in 11.10), it did freeze
my laptop as well and I removed it again.
(was not reported that time).
Removed nvidia using:
sudo apt-get --purge remove nv

Here's a video of the behavior. Sometimes it actually does work properly.
Usually this occurs after snapping the window to half the monitor and then
resizing across the desktop (see ~1.5-2min), however I can't consistently
reproduce it or sometimes get it to go back to the buggy behavior. Hop

It's always triggered when using chromium.
A big white rectangle appears that covers about two thirds of the screen.
I use compiz --replace to get rid of this rectangle, it's the only way.

Hey,
I am sorry that it took me so long, but you know how it is: when you are
waiting for a bug to happen - nothing happens.
So i got into gdb and createt that txt, but on the bt command gdb
returned "no stack". I took a look into the file but i dont think it
will be very helpfull to you.
