I am still experiencing this in precise, either with fglrx 8.911 (included in the repos) or fglrx 8.950 (Catalyst 12.2, installed manually from packages built by the installer). Side note: this fglrx update did wonders with gnome-shell, this might as well be a bug with fglrx as pointed out by Łuka
