detail related to compiz CPU consumption patterns. The Clementine
player does it!

vissible the compiz CPU% stays within reasonable limits (0%-3%). But

This is possibly the same as bug 769023, where the launcher used so much
CPU to animate the pulsing icon that it slowed down the application. And
presumably the same would be true for opening animations.

Great, thanks for the information. I can see this behavior as well. It
seems that there's always a chance of failure in launcher animations but
it appears that it has a higher failure rate when the program is clicked
via the Unity launcher.

If you use compiz and set the dash/panel Blur effect to None instead of
STATIC or DYNAMIC, the panel's transparency gets back to normal, yet the
dash's transparency gets screwed (becomes fully transparent).

I am experiencing the same problem. I tried mplayer2 from motumedia
mplayer ppa but this did not help. Replacing mplayer2 with mplayer (from
motumedia) fixed the problem.

I backported the patch to my oneiric ppa and the fix works: using the
test html page I attached earlier I can not reproduce the white box. As
Sam said sometimes it does show up for a split second at 0,0 (top left
corner) but it disappears as it should. Well done!

On my machine, this problem seems to be related to chromium app tabs - when the
app tab is blinking with notification, the cpu usage by compiz goes to ~ 50 %.
