The fix will be reviewed before the next SRU. However it may take a different form, because there are other scale plugin regressions introduced in 12.04 that we'd also like to fix. And they all seem to be caused by a single commit. So it's possible the first thing we do is revert that one commit

IME: the defect occurs when summoning a modal dialog. I can keep the target program open (in my case, Lotus Notes) and use it for as long as I want without decoration loss as long as I do nothing that creates a modal dialog. I can pretty much trigger the issue at will by summoning modal dialogs.
