** Description changed:
Please support the XDG base directory specification. It looks like
compiz in Ubuntu 13.04 Alpha uses ~/.compiz to store its cache. The
cache should be stored in $XDG_CACHE_HOME/compiz instead
This will make backups noticeably easier and will help reduce the

Finally I got a solution: I installed emerald-0.9.5 from source this
morning and the blank white windows are gone, focus-animation dodge is
working fine, awesome!
The further hard- software-configuration is like described in my post
#152 as Configuration #3.

I think the fact that it may not be portable is all the more reason it
should go in $XDG_CACHE_HOME/compiz unless some of the stuff should
rather go in $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR (I don't really know what the purpose of
the ~/.compiz files is).
Smart backup tools like Deja Dup already exclude those
@Escorates
Did you actually install compiz after building it? Did you also build
nux/bamf etc? Tried using unity-jhbuild?
Generally a crash in the vtable func means an abi mismatch somewhere.
Try running with --debug in order to see what symbols you are missing.
Apologies for the late response,
@Esokrates
Can you run with --debug? Try also compiling and installing the latest
nux/bamf from source - crashes in the vtable funcs usually indicate an abi
mismatch.

@a-hafner: Andi, I am happy that the instructions for installing Emerald
worked for you as well, and I am happy to hear that your white windows
are gone and that the dodge focus animation is working also 4 you... :)
I am trying to convince the Ubuntu packaging/motu guys to continue

I can confirm this on a up-to-date precise install.
On Note 3: Only Ctrl+Alt+Numpad4 and Ctrl+Alt+Numpad6 works fine, and since
these are the only grids position allowed using the mouse with defaults
settings, grid seems to work fine with the mouse. However, I modified grid
setting to allow
Temporary workaround (needs compizconfig-settings-manager):
Open CompizConfig and click the Window Decoration button. `Shadow windows'
should be `any'. Replace it with
`any !(state=maxvert)'. This solved the problem for me.
(I'm using Debian squeeze 6.0.6, but this should still work for Ubuntu.)
I'm not sure if it is compiz problem: I'm using fallback mode and have
similar issue
