Odd. Makes sense, but odd. This is a recent problem, I don't believe it existed in Compiz 0.8, it certainly wasn't around in Lucid Lynx. I wonder if it's due to new Catalyst drivers, rather than the new Compiz version. It might be worth compiling the latest fglrx on Lucid to see if this bug occurs
