Unity 8 will not land before 14.10, at the earliest. Since they are not
going to add new features to Unity in 14.04, do not expect to see this

PS: I also checked the nvidia-settings tool. I did not find any option
for rotating the screen, and everything looked normal.

Look at how much attention this bug has. The ridiculous part is how the
Canonical developers handle this whole situation, it is really a public
relations and community involvement disaster.
First they promise that they will integrate LIMs.
Why do you not want to inform us about the status of this project? Is it
necessary to be secretive about this? Asking since you removed the line

This what I get when I enter the command for the script. At the moment I
have a few windows open: 4 terminals, Banshee, Firefox, Nautilus, the
System Monitor, and two Evince instances. On idle the CPU consumption of
my i7 Sandy Bridge CPU is 30% right now.

messages. I then tried running it as root but that crashed my system.

compiz consuming a
Since recently, this problem has been reduced, but is not gone. Resuming
goes much quicker now, but still takes ~5 seconds, as compared to 30-45s
previously. I have a brand new laptop so I still consider 5 seconds
slow.

NOTE: Just a moment ago the same occurred to me when I dragged some text
in Chromium. Should I make another bug report for that? Both bugs seem
to be related.
