Michael: You simply need to delete them.
Log out and back in. It's possible Compiz won't be enabled, just enable
it and it should keep working afterwards.

Michael, all, I was able to fix the issue for myself this way:

When I logged back in, the the effects were set back to "none". I
selected my preference, logged out, back in, and they were still
working.

This only happens on the primary profile on the PC.
When I log in, no window decorations (neither Metacity or Emerald) are
present, and I have to manually activate them.
