It seems that this is not compiz related. I have the same effect with
Ubuntu 11.10 and gnome shell. Compiz and Unity are not installed. I've
tested some other distros with gnome shell and could not reproduce the
error there.

Ok, that means that the problem is compiz. With metacity it isn't
active, so the error does not occur there.

I don't think that this is related to unity, more with compiz. Unity
isn't installed on my System, I'm using Ubuntu-Classic, and I can
reproduce the Bug with ease. It is also happening with other application

Title:
Cannot change mouse cursor theme when compiz is enabled
Ok, to clarify: this happens with the radeon driver too. I try to start
unity since the first alpha versions, never got it work. The only thing
that has changed is that I get an Info in the latest dailys that my
hardware is not supported (ATI X600M). Compiz on 10.10 runs smooth with

Sam, I've tested that with QCad and no, the theme does not change within
QT-Windows.

Could it be that this is Compiz on one and metacity on the other side?
Changing the theme works now within the windows/apps but isn't overtaken

Just a thought...

I've tried Rich Adams fix and it works. Still not as good as disabling
Compiz (Cursorchange is still not overtaken immediately, you have to
move the cursor out of the Window), but much better than before.
