I have confirmed this bug on a standalone install of compiz on Ubuntu
server 18.04 - no unity, no mate, nothing.
Same results with both the application switcher and static application
switcher - can't change the background color or opacity. Some of the
other settings do work.

I agree with the previous two comments - this is a bug. The
problem/behaviour does defeat the purpose of the "Always on Top" feature
- to remain visible without retaining focus - when using multiple
workspaces. Cheers :-)

Bug is still there... using 12.04. i can visualize and activate the
window in the window switcher with ALT+TAB, but it's invisible, when I
switch to it. It's a Firefox window. Previously I was extrem-twiddeling

This patch is going to go into Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric) as a stable release
update with some other compiz patches. It will also go into 12.04 LTS.
If you want to test this one patch in the meantime, I've build a test package
for Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric)

I am running unity 4.24.0, and I can confirm that pressing F11 twice in
Chromium fixed the window stacking problem. When this stacking problem
occurs, I need to minimize each open window in order to get back to the
desktop before I can use the unity launcher to switcher.

Heres another datapoint for this problem. I was running 9.10 and
switched monitors to a 1440x900 monitor and compiz started hogging cpu.
So I upgraded to 10.10 but no joy. Googling around someone mentioned the
same problem with a laptop and external monitor and that disconnecting

unconditionally (just like clicking on the title bar does), irrespective
of what 'raise-on-click' is set too. This was also the behavior of

I'm seeing intermittent compiz crashes when launching smplayer as well.
Enabling 'loose binding' and setting Texture Filter to 'Best' seems to
reduce the occurrence of this issue. I've yet to reproduce the problem
with 'indirect rendering' enabled or with vdpau disabled. I did not have
this problem
I am having the same issue with Invest on 9.10. Leaves a shadow. I
never had this with any previous Ubuntu versions. Compiz is loaded.

My guess would also be that this is somehow related to gtk's new client-
side window approach. Can someone try if invoking firefox from the
command line as "GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 firefox" fixes the issue?

Easystroke does send out the clear command, I think the problem is that
compiz never processes it. IIRC, the compiz main loop is coded in such
a way that compiz only processes commands sent by DBus if it is idle, so
it never gets to clearing the screen when it is too busy drawing the
fire.

Is it really still sensible to enable "unredirect fullscreen windows"
when it causes so many graphics issues. I am no expert but I don't think
that it necessarily improves performance by any noticeable amount -
fedora does not enable it by default and this does not cause any major
problems.
