Public bug reported: I'm trying to combine LXDE with Compiz starting with an ubuntu-minimal build, and relying on dependency declarations to ensure I am getting the right packages. However compiz always crashes when I try to launch it as a replacement window manager with the attached crash log (from screen).
Most likely there's a dependency which is satisfied by a typical Gnome or Lubuntu build, but which isn't satisfied by this minimal one. The target machine is a Compaq Presario 700 as described here http ://notebook-review-weblog.blogspot.co.uk/2009/02/compaq- presario-700.html if you think system resources might be an issue. I have 640Meg memory installed. The steps I'm following are roughly... Install ubuntu-minimal lxde compiz compiz-gnome fusion-icon metacity- themes compizconfig-settings-manager docky kupfer Launch CompizConfigSettingsManager and configure the window decoration with the following command line... gtk-window-decorator --replace --metacity-theme OutlineFruity This is an experimental machine, so I'm free to try most things if you have a clue what can be attempted. Once I've figured the combination out, I should be able to install it on quite a few low-power notebooks, with Kupfer and Cairo or Docky for system dock functions as a minimal alternative to Unity.
