Ok, thanks. That excludes Unity. Now we have to figure out if it's
compiz or fglrx. To do that, please install package gnome-shell and
try logging into Gnome Shell. Does it still happen?

Ok, for pure experimental I have installed Ubuntu 12.04.01 and Catalyst legacy
12.6. I've changed nothing and all system configuration set by default.
After installation gnome-session-fallback I log in to Gnome Classic and I have

Please try this and tell us if you have the same problem (with fglrx):
1. sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback
2. Log out and log in to Gnome Classic
Same problem still? That will tell us if it is specifically a problem
with Unity.
