Thank you very much for bisecting this issue and narrowing down which
commit is causing this issue. That commit is a pretty big and
complicated one. I also suspect is causing some other issues too.
I'm not a user of Gnome Flashback. I'm a Unity dev, so I use Unity:)

was reverted in r3736 and came back again when it was brought back in
r3751.
