I have the same problem with Kile. Also in my case the problem
disappears if I uninstall appmenu-qt, but I don't consider this a fix,
since the normal behavior should be to have the global menu working.
Please tell me how to provide useful information.

tinkering with the system I uninstalled the "appmenu-qt" package and the
problem stopped. Of course, the problem now is that those apps that use
the package don't show their menus.

This just started happening in my system. I have Ubuntu 12.04 but didn't
