To avoid this bug, restart in "recovery mode" and select the option of
low resolution. You'll be able to switch to Ubuntu Classic Desktop.

compiz crashed in my system as well DELL Optiplex GX270 desktop. i downloaded
Alpha2 yesterday but it seems it has a lot of bugs at the moment.
when i restarted compiz it again crashed

So, sam, this is the bug I can reproduce reliably without the workaround
on both my netbooks and sometimes on my laptop, depending on boot.
FYI, I reintroduced the wokaround for the week-end. Hope that + aquarius
