While the interface for AVG is "clumsy", I like the fact that it just
sits there and does its thing without my having to get involved. It
updates itself daily, and I have not had an incidence of a virus or
malware in the several years I have been using it. (I have half a dozen

Don't waste your time with Safari, it's a bad browser. I will spare you a

Although I am not personally a Mac user, I can still confidently recommend

I have never understood the glowing talk of Apple's superpower browser,

according to the stats, I guess it is fast.)Indeed Camino has a similar

I've been reading that this is not a major release, I'm wondering what
denotes it as major for those mac users on the list thinking of getting it?

Have you tried Opera? I find it the best browser for information
gathering that I have used on any platform. I do use Camino for
banking and some shopping when they can't handle Opera, but that is
less and less common.

10.5, according to the NYT tech writer, is an evolutionary, not

(Vista sales have peaked over the summer and are slowing. Big yawn.)

I am hoping that the release of 10.5 will finally bring down the
price of 10.4 on eBay, so I can upgrade my 10.3.9 G4 machine. People
are paying what I consider to be CRAZY prices for 10.4. I have set my
price point at ~$50.

I do not mind paying for an AV package, I just do not want one that bogs the
system down, does not allow some activities, etc. I have used a number of
versions of norton and macafee, and both were very invasive. they were cheap.
but I would not mind paying for a decent piece of software.

If 10.4 saved you 5 minutes a day, would it not be worth the $100 they want for

Personally I have a number of browsers on my Mac, but my favorite is

I often would skip a major upgrade. Apple does it in such a way that
you have no problems skipping a generation of the OS. I would feel
perfectly safe in going from 10.3.9 to 10.5.

You can make your iTunes directory use an external drive. So using an
iPod with iTunes should work fine. You can also choose to have iTunes
leave your media where it is, so you could keep music on one drive and
video on another if you like.

I think 10.4 was a big improvement over 10.3. From what I've read so
far, and I've looked in to it quite a bit, there are no features of 10.5
that would motivate me to get it. There are some neat new features and
some worthwhile improvements to the standard Apple programs that would
be useful,

I doubt it will save me any time. It WILL permit me to run Google
