After going through at least six or seven ISPs, I can't imagine ever
having email with any. Get GMail, and don't bother with Verizon unless
you download it to Thunderbird or import it into GMail. If you're not
in the US, get a free POP/IMAP Yahoo account and do the same.

I am looking for a shop that

FYI, I am going to build

You need to decide if it is worth the trouble, but if yes there are
services that will provide a VPN connection. This

The shop I used to go to in Clarendon, Allnet, is gone. At one time there
were 4 such shops in the Clarendon area. Now all gone. Killed by high
rents, the superstores, and the Internet.
I'm wondering, why not build it yourself?

I recommend going to a MarketPro computer show. If you can't find a
screwdriver shop there, there aren't any.
I just checked the website for the shop that, 5 years ago, built the
computer I still use. The company, as such, still exists, but it doesn't
appear as though they build boxes anymore.
I have a tendency to build my own.
I am just more comfortable putting the pieces together and knowing what I have.

I have in the past, but I would
be willing to pay someone not
to have to do the research.
There must be online places that
do this to. It is just harder
to communicate and establish trust, etc.

Two system builders I know of online.
MWave and Newegg.
(I am not sure Newegg does it)
Mwave used to build boxes and sell them as barebones units.
It has just gotten cheaper to sell other vendors boxes though.
One place to look for reviews is indeed Newegg. All their stuff have
reviews on i
Thanks everyone for the great replies. Tom's reply about the over-the-air
part of the transmission is what is still confusing me. How can the
over-the-air part of the communication be protected using only SSL login on
email without a VPN or other encruption?
