Can be. The phone-book sized "Mac OS X Unleashed" is written by a Unix 
hacker who I think is sincerely trying to be helpful. But alas, it is 
full of lenghty scripts for tasks that could be more easily accomplished 
by dragging and dropping icons in the GUI. He thinks his scripts are 
"magical" I think they are "monstrous."
