compaq with xp to an acer with vista.
is there a way to transfer them without reloading them(registry problems), or
do i just copy eveything onto an external, then load what i want onto the new

You can't transfer programs, but any thumb drive or external HD will handle
the data. You'll need to install the apps fresh on the new machine. They
may or may not work with Vista.
