We are recruiting two Conservators: Organics with specialist knowledge and

conservation, to care for the British Museum's collection through a combination
of interventive and preventive measures in support of the Museum's operating
plan.
Please indicate your specialist interest (archaeological or historic materials

required, both post holders will also work on a broad range of organic
materials outside their specialist area.
The post-holders will contribute to the preparation of objects for loan,
exhibition and permanent display, as well as supporting dedicated projects on
collections in store. The focus of the roles in the short to medium term will
be to deliver an increasingly diverse public programme and to support the
department to implement the Collection Care strategy.
The successful candidates will possess a recognised professional conservation
qualification to degree level, or equivalent, with emphasis on the conservation
of objects made of organic materials. With post-training work experience in the
museum and heritage sector you will have an understanding of conservation
theory and ethical decision making, and knowledge of contemporary principles
and practice in preventive conservation.
We are seeking two highly organised individuals, who can balance diverse
workloads and complete projects to agreed deadlines and budgets. You will
liaise with a variety of stakeholders, and will be an open and effective
communicator as well as confident in presenting work publicly. It is essential
to pass a colour vision test for these roles.
