The tune in this video of large band playing at the 2011 Northwest Folklife Festival in
Seattle is "The Telephone Tune", played at about 113 to 114 BPM:

Kat,
I played the recording you linked to (the version on Google Drive), and
measured the tempo as averaging 110 beats per minute, with not much variation
over the length of the recording (except for the ritard at the very end, which
I didn't include in my timing). If my computer is playing the
On tempo, I think you could play that Sat at the speed on the recording,
but it's at the low end of danceable. If, with the tunes having so many
notes, your band is actually playing more like 105 instead of 110, I could
see it being hard to dance to?

Here is a dance with lots of balance through A and smoother B that I wrote a while ago that I think could work well. Leftovers, BecketBen WernerA1: (16) Rh to neighbor, Balance Square through 2 A2: (16) Petronella x 2 B1: (16) Balance & Swing PartnerB2: (8) Promenade & fishhook (can think of it lik
I think the tunes would be easy to dance to. Some moves would go better
with some phrases, as some others have pointed out, but a good band would
be able to adapt a tune to the dance itself, doing things to emphasize
balances, smooth out places with lots of walking (lines fwd and back,
circles). Th

Thank you for all the fabulous dance suggestions
It was super fun to receive all these, and so quickly too :)
Thanks also for remembering about the basic level of our dance group and
including some viable options for us.
I am going to sit down with all of the options presented, and the t
This sounds like a typical tune set played for our Monday Contras at the
Concord (MA) Scout House. Our dancers would happily enjoy this set in an
evening.
FWIW, to me it feels up energy and lively, like a walk on a bright spring
(or autumn 😉) day. If I recall correctly your community has a limited
I really like those tunes. I'd call happily to that set. Something with
some balances and changes of directions in the A part (lines of 4 with
balances and moves forward, or maybe a square through 4) and something
slightly more flowy in the B part.

I would happily call Good Friday to that tune.

I can't remember what level of complication / sophistication works for your
dancers.
Listening to the tunes I heard bitty 4 count things in the As and longer
phrases in the Bs.
If you want to work with rather than against the music, your As should be
something
like balance-the-ring,petronella
For what it's worth, here are the figures that I pictured when I
listened to the tunes. (This is off the top of my head, so it may not
be worth much, and I have no idea if someone else has already put
these figures together.)
