It isn't the distance that counts so much as the server. I get better
results from mirrors in the UK than from some that are only a few hundred
miles distant.

working on it.
I agree, Eugenio. I posted a fairly serious problem about 8.0 Beta1
failing in runlevel 5, but there has been total silence thus far.

I've eliminated these via chkconfig, and there are no Snnnamed or Snnmon
links in /etc/rc.d/rc3.d.
Nevertheless, these crank up everytime.
I'm using a local cacheing dns now (djbdns), so I don't need bind.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding that Netscape has never
worked properly in 24 bit depth - try 16 or 32.

Have you checked your mixer settings?? That card runs fine with my Mk8.
Doh! - what a dummy! That's the answer. But the even bigger dummy is
whoever decided to make the default settings for the mixer to be sound
turned off!
Thanks for the tip.

9) I'm able to receive and send mail and Netscape and Konqueror
work just fine. Kmail works, too, although I don't use it on a regular
basis.
