Hardware: Athlon 1900+ Asus A7V266 ATI Radeon 8500 DV 512 mb ram (for everything else, see attached lspci file)
Expert install of Rc1, all three CDs. I select everything but do not go for individual packages. Installation seems normal, although the graphics are surprisingly sluggish sometimes (this is a pretty fast machine after all). It nicely detects all my hardware (even my USB printer with working test print page, which never happened before, and which makes me jump up and down with joy). It correctly identifies my graphics card, and the X test works without flaw. (I selected 1280x1024/24bit). I enable start graphics at boot. Installation finishes, reboot (no power off in between), no funny messages in startup. Graphical login screen appears, looking beautiful. I enter login and password (not clicking anything else). However, as soon as I click the OK button for accepting the login, X bombs out and I land on a console prompt. Reboot (full halt, power off, 5 seconds, then restart). Boot up to test login again. This time I get to login, but I don't see any drakfirsttime. I end up in KDE, but only icon on desktop is a redcircle/cross error icon named "PDQ_Panic". (I haven't installed the 9.0 betas before, so I don't know which icons should be available). Everything else in KDE (including menus and similar) seem normal. I even get to engage in my favorite waste of time ("Same gnome"). I doubt the PDQ_panic has anything to do with X display bombing per se though. Seems USB didn't start in spite of being marked as on in chkconfig. But as said, this is probably an unrelated error. "dmesg" seemed pretty normal, at least no error warnings that did seem to have to do with graphics. Surprisingly nothing I identify as being trouble with USB either. Attaching output of "lspci -vv" and "dmesg". // Joel
