What's your hardware/motherboard chipset?
Could it be an APIC issue? Did you try disabling the APIC (not ACPI) in the
BIOS or boot the kernel with noapic option.

I installed mandrake 9.0 and everything installed like magic got everything
configured in a jiffy.I notice the gui of the install is different wonder if this has
