If I back-track to libqt3-3.1.1-12mdk does that mean that I lose
anti-alias on anything? Or will the change be otherwise transparent?

This bug is a dupe of 3081. See the discussion on that bug for a workaround.
Perhaps someone with the appropriate authority can mark it as such.
