I think this is a mistake. I did an RPM with --nodeps, and the kernel
installed fine without adding anything else (like kdeaddutils...)

new kernel but the header files are for uniprocessor and I am running the smp

Is Mandrake going to release a 2.4 kernel for LM 7.2?
The package says 2.4 kernel ready and includes the beta version. But why not
release a real 2.4 kernel. Not everyone wants to build their own or upgrade
to the next version.

Hmmm... are you sure it's the kernel package that's conflicting with
kdeutils?
On my box the latest kdelibs conflict with kdeutils, the kernel package
installed without any complaints...

checkout you kernel config.
Well.. the way I got to my 2.4 config was to "safe" my old 7.2 original config,
then cd to ../linux-2.4.0, make menuconfig and load my old config. Of then again

It has been a while since I worked my way through tailoring the kernel to my
own needs,
mainly because I didnt need to since I am using Mandrake ;). Anyways, I
patched the 2.4
kernel with the latest reiserfs patch for 2.4, compiled the kernel with
reiserfs. (not as a module)
