In X using any window manager choose logout and go to kdm. In kdm click
on the shutdown button and choose either halt or reboot. and click the
ok button. At that point you do what is in affect a telinit 3 The
I have a similar problem on 9.0. I just updated to Texstar's final KDE 3.1
RPMs. Now when I select Reboot from the KDE logout dialog, it drops to init
3, and presents a login prompt.

Wow I WAS rather vague wasn't I, Danny kind of covered for me though, I'm
running KDE. The problem happened with both mdkkdm and kdm and the problem
was as rcc stated in the paths to the RebootCmd. When I replaced:
RebootCmd=/usr/sbin/rebootin
with:
RebootCmd=/sbin/reboot

I think it's the path in kdmrc, I ran into that prob a while ago and
have this in my postinstall scripts/patches for kdmrc. I'm using kde
kdm.
