Several machines where I allowed diskdrake in Mdk 7.1 to do the default
partition are now becoming problematic as the undersized usr partitions
are rapidly filling up.

Is there an easy and reliable solution to this dilemma? Do programs such
as Gnu Parted allow me to join two partitions into a larger whole?

DiskDrake left me with
/dev/hda1 * 1 31 248976 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda2 32 2108 16683502+ 5 Extended
/dev/hda5 32 69 305203+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda6 70 451 3068383+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda7 452 2108 13309821 83 Linux

which I would rather partition as having hda6 and hda7 in one large
partition. Is this possible, or is my only recourse to backup the
disk, repartition and re-install?
