I tried the new lyx, lyx-1.1.5-5mdk.i586.rpm and it worked fine!
BUT, now I also had changed my screen resolution to 16mln colors. When I
changed it back to 256 colors lyx again failed to start (also with "lyx
-shared" option).
I never have had these problems before with any program or
lyx-1.1.5-4mdk.i586.rpm crashes at startup with segmentation fault.
I don't kno why it crashes but maybe other people have problems as well?
I saw on the lyx web site lyx-1.1.5fix2 is released. So maybe it is necessary
to build that one if many other people fail to start lyx.

i just uploaded a new one including the fix2 . (5mdk on cooker)
try it and see if this fix your problem.
