I am wondering wether
  menu-2.1.5-90mdk.i586.rpm
is really necessary for upgrade of KDE to the Cooker version
(kdebase-2.2.2-43mdk)
kdelibs installed ok without menu 2.1.5-90mdk, I have following menu package
installed from LM 8.0
[vadim@VPlessky vadim]$ rpm -q menu
menu-2.1.5-51mdk

During my attempt to install menu, I was forced to update rpm
[root@VPlessky KDE 2.2.2]# rpm -Uvh menu*
error: failed dependencies:
        rpm >= 4.0.3-0.16mdk is needed by menu-2.1.5-90mdk

which in fact asked me to update these packages, 30MB in total:

rpm-4.0.3-4mdk.i586.rpm
rpm-build-4.0.3-4mdk.i586.rpm
rpm-devel-4.0.3-4mdk.i586.rpm
setup-2.2.0-23mdk.i586.rpm
popt-1.6.3-4mdk.i586.rpm
popt-devel-1.6.3-4mdk.i586.rpm
glibc-2.2.4-24mdk.i586.rpm
glibc-devel-2.2.4-24mdk.i586.rpm
locales-2.3.1.2-6mdk.i586.rpm
locales-ru-2.3.1.2-6mdk.i586.rpm
locales-en-2.3.1.2-6mdk.i586.rpm
locales-uk-2.3.1.2-6mdk.i586.rpm
bash-2.05-15mdk.i586.rpm
proftpd-1.2.5-0.rc1.4mdk.i586.rpm
crontabs-1.9-2mdk.noarch.rpm
etcskel-1.63-13mdk.noarch.rpm
fileutils-4.1.5-2mdk.i586.rpm

finally, I decided not to screw my working install (which is my
working/production machine, I use it at office), and installed kdebase with
--nodeps
And, it's working ok.

But, I am still concerned- wether I misssed something, and *should I* upgrade
all the packages above?
I am especially concerned with upgrade to glibc-2.2.4, currently I have
installed:
[root@VPlessky KDE 2.2.2]# rpm -q glibc
glibc-2.2.2-4mdk

I am going now to install KDE3 Beta from Cooker, and want to have it
operational. So, please give me your comments/opinions :-))
