This needs to be put into /etc/sysctl.conf on 2.4 kernels. this fixes

PPP is supported it just dies on connect

Just to add to the mix i downloaded the 2.4.0-0.35mdk and found that it
has PPP
dialup working (after insmoding the modules) but no sound (may need to
insmod
also) [direct compile of kernel.org tarball gives sound no ppp
the big question is What version is 35 based on??
