[Cooker] vi in gnome-term loses arrow keys

Hi,
This may not be specific to Mandrake, but after using
gnome-terminal for a while, I cannot navigate in vi with the
arrow keys anymore.
This morning for example I modified my crontab with crontab -e
and several hours later, I only get a bell if I try using the
arrow keys doing the same.
Same behaviour on several machines, and it does not seem to
happen in Eterm.
What could I try to fix this or understand what is going wrong?
