I had the Seg-faulting problem with the previous version as well. I was
able to prevent it by removing all of the channel

cd /.../fonts/misc
mkfontdir
... xset fp rehash
... update-menus
New fonts are installed, so xfs should be restarted before doing xset fp rehash.
Check that xfs is actually installed first.
