Just asked to pixel : UTF-8 locales are kind of broken with a lot of
language (it is no longer available at install time).. I suggest you
switch back to ISO-8859-15 DE locale.. Thanks..

It might make a difference..
You're right, it does make a difference. In a plain X, starting
gnomecc doesn't halt the whole system. It just doesn't start. I only
see the window frame without any contents.

Done. This killed nautilus and oaf. Can't start gnomecc.
Any ideas about what might cause this problem?
