Baked Chili

 

1 1/2 cups dried pinto beans, rinsed, sorted

5 1/2 cups water

1 pound round steak, trimmed, cut into 1 inch pieces

2 1/2 tablespoons chili powder

1 tablespoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 1/2 cups chopped onion

3 cloves garlic, minced

3 1/2 cups tomato sauce

 

Method

 

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. 

2. Place beans into large Dutch oven. 

3. Add water.

4. Heat to a boil. 

5. Boil for two minutes. 

6. Add remaining ingredients, stir.

7. Cover. 

8. Bake for 4 hours, until beef and beans are tender. 

9. Stir. 

10. Serve with a small amount of sour cream, chopped green onions and shredded 
cheddar cheese as toppings, if desired.
