Job Title: Data Architect Location: Bethesda, MD or Reston, VA Length: 6 months + Interview Process: Phone Screen, then In-person JOB INFORMATION Design methods for optimization and integration of various technology systems or policies and high level principals. Apply varied engineering and design theories to produce robust, integrated functioning of various systems, technology interfaces, and/or overarching information policies and high level principles. Assess functioning of overall technology and communications systems and end-to-end processes and to look for ways to upgrade and optimize systems and processes in the future. Work across the architecture and technology organization to ensure effective implementation, architecture compliance and conflict resolution. May participate in projects to assess and optimize overall functioning of technology, data and processes. KEY JOB FUNCTIONS • May serve as technical expert to define and maintain the architectural frameworks/patterns, processes, standards and guidelines related to systems, business or data architecture. • Provide technical and architectural subject matter expertise to the various development teams including communicating architectural decisions and mentoring other technical staff around the various development technologies and decisions. • Identify core common data shared across the enterprise and participate in enterprise wide efforts to reach common understanding of those data. • Conduct studies of new technologies to provide more efficient and cost effective architecture solutions • Confer with business units and application development staff to understand both the business and technical requirements and to define architectural constraints • Create performance metrics and traceability maps to determine the effectiveness of architecture solutions and facilitate governance. Keep abreast of relevant architecture best practices. *SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS (Required)* • 4-6 years’ experience with solution architecture and solution experience across multiple architecture domains such as business, data, integration, and application • 4-6 years’ experience with data integration patterns and integration of data & business architectures • 3+ years of experience in leading business process design, business events derivation and associated data objects and entity modeling. • 3+ years of experience in driving the enterprise data architecture strategy, methodology and standards that delivers enterprise data model, associated meta model, common business vocabulary and taxonomies • Hands on experience in applying future state data architecture/design concepts such as Data Lake and Big Data. • Exposure to large-scale/enterprise-level data centric projects is a must • Good understanding of data modeling across relational, star/dimensional or other emerging approaches. • In-depth understanding of RDBMS systems and Database Appliances (such as Oracle/RAC and Netezza). • Working knowledge of Big Data (general) and Hadoop technologies (specific) and design concepts. • Experience reviewing designs for robustness and quality. • 2+ years of experience interfacing with messaging based systems and ESB's such as MQ/JMS or Tibco EMS is preferred. • Strong understanding of SOA concepts, design patterns, tools, techniques and best practices. • TOGAF or an equivalent architecture framework certification.
