You were indeed fortunate to locate your McCullaghs Gordon. To put some perspective into researching these families, I must cite Bodoney Lower parish as rather typical of the problem encountered by researchers.
There are in excess of ninety McCullagh households recorded in c1860 Griffiths Valuation in Bodoney Lower and interestingly, these same families are recorded as McCULLOW in the 1830 tithe applotment book. Now here is the crunch: the Bodoney Lower Catholic registers (baptisms and marriages) commence rather late – in 1865! So, that leave us with the possibility of hundreds of unrecorded events in just one parish – folk could have been born and died and/ or emigrated leaving absolutely no record of the parish of their birth. This is an example of the situation encountered in a single parish with the possibility of something similar in many of the other forty-two parishes in Co. Tyrone.
