I have a lot of these messages in the mail log.

The ip is different for each entry.
What does it mean?

I've searched the courier-mta.org site, and Google for how to do virtual
mailboxes/virtual mail users with Courier. I didn't find anything useful.
Where is this documented?

All other processes related to courier are running, but courierd isnt.

To improve debugging time, I had to compile courier autdaemon with DEBUG_LDAP
set (check authlib_ldap.c , or some file named like this in authdaemon sources )
You should also increase the log level, of you LDAP server in order to see all
request made.
Check also your LDAP database, if you
