i have a perlfilter script (virus scanner via amavis) running on two

hi david,
i have written a perl filter for incoming and outgoing mail, which uses
amavis as a virus scanner. the main problem i had was, that to successfully
do so i had to modify the controlfiles if a virus was detected. once i had
done that, the rest was easy... i suggest you read the chapter abo

since the toolchain upgrade, i haven't been able to connect to *any* port at
all (esmtp, pop3, imap). i have tried all snapshots including 20021014.RC2
but to no avail. funny thing is, that when i try to connect via ssl, the ssl
connection is established all right, but the underlying pop3 or what
thing
worked perfect again (had to do so, as this is a production server).

what i want to accomplish is the following:
every mail is scanned by a virusscanner (local, esmtpd, esmtpd-ssl,
esmtpd-msa). thats easy enough with a global perlfilter. but i want to
implement an amavis-like behavior, i.e. accept all mails, quarantine the
virusmessage, and send out a notification.
i found out, that if a spammer (idetified by a realtime blacklist) receives
the 550 of whatever he gets from courier and decides to ignore it (which
does not conform to rfc, but if i were a spammer i would figure what the
heck), and continues to send data the esmptd does not hangup but logs some
