Maybe you should read about SMTP, as you suggest. And DNS. And about open

I forgot to mention that I tried two smarthosts:
One is sendmail+mailscanner, which I tried once (and I had this error).
The other is Courier+MailAvenger+NbSMTP, but it still presents the same
problems.

the original poster, is really an
IMAP client, it doesn't
need to know the plaintext password, as it is provided by the user when he/she
logins. So, I guess:
1) we are missing some explanations of the requirements in here
2) the original poster didn't fully understand the auth process

I have this on esmtproutes:
:FQDN_OF_EXTERNAL_MX
But when someone sends an email through courier for an external domain, they get
"No such domain"
replies DSN.
What is wrong?

If I'm not mistaken, you can change the hostname in the esmtpd config
file.

haven't been able to debug this. For the sake of information completity, I've
used both printf (with
the correct \r and \n specials) piped through netcat, by-hand netcat and
telnet, and hand-disabled
tls config among sendmail. So far, no luck.

I connect to my ESMTP port from any IP address, even local, and I get no
response for a EHLO command.
But email sent among TLS enabled MTAs gets perfectly to my courier setup.
What is happening?
