compiled mailman with the group and userids the same as apache[www] and
can use both the web and command line interfaces.  The command line creates
the mailing list and the web interface allows one to subscribe but doesn't
send the confirmation email. (nothing in maillog)  When I put the aliases
in a courier/aliases/maidir file and run makealiases they are accepted but
when I send an email to the newly created list, I am greeted with a 550
user unknown.  Then it dawned on me that maybe it won't work with hosteddomains.
I changed the aliases to include the @domain.net to the listname and reran
makealiases but had the same problem.  I also tried to create the list with the
email address but no change.

I have two initial questions:

  Does anyone use mailman with virtual domains?
  Does anyone know why mailman doesn't send the confirming emails?
