Ok, I am still having problems authenticating using either IMP, Mozilla
Mail, Outlookdoesn't matter. I have increased the allowable
connections from on IP, and the number of daemons, but doesn't help.
Here are some symptoms:
- Mail client works sometimes, then says "Login to server failed
I have got qmail up and running on a standalone mailserver. Also courier-imap seems to
be running:
31774 ?S 0:00 /usr/lib/courier-imap/libexec/authlib/authdaemond.pla
31784 ?S 0:00 /usr/lib/courier-imap/libexec/couriertcpd -address=10
31787 ?S 0:00 /usr/lib
I am redoing my courier installation from scratch. Do I need to set
authmodulelist="authdaemon.plain" for courier to read the /etc/passwd file?

How do one compile "authtest"? I tried the following:
$ GCC_VER="2.95.3"
$ export CC="/pkg-local/gcc/$GCC_VER/bin/gcc"
$ export CPP="/pkg-local/gcc/$

What should be the right name of the deamon to use
/etc/shadow ? If I remove the file "authdaemond.mysql"
then I instead got the process
authlib/authdaemond.plain start
Is that correct?

Argh, this must be a quite common case, but I didn't
find it in /build/courier-imap-1.5.3/imap/FAQ and I
have read thru both the "README" and the "INSTALL"...
I am compiling courier-imap 1.5.3 with gcc 2.95.3
(since the INSTALL tells me it can't handle gcc 3.x)
and I'm passing the --without-ipv6
reate new vpopmail library, then recompile and

trie to get my IMAP email ! I can't authenticate myself ! Then I found this
in the logs:

Unfourtunately, this didn't resolved my
problems. The ./authtest still fails.

Hi,
I just can't get pam authentication to work on
redhat, read the whole web and the documentation.
/etc/pam.d (tryed both cause there seems to me no clear indication which
is the correct one)
auth required /lib/security/pam_unix.so debug
accountrequired /lib/security/pam_unix.so deb
Hello All:
I recently installed Courier 0.36.1 on a test machine and I'm trying to get
ESMTP AUTH to work. I'm using Sylpheed as a test client and Courier's esmtpd
as the test server. Every message fails with the following line(s) in the log:
