[css-d] nav link states

What is the state called when I click on one of a number of links on a navbar and while I am visiting that page, the link stays "lit" so that if I forget where I am, I need simply glance up at the navbar to see where I am? And the million dollar question is: How do I style such? Thanks. "D __

Greetings. Been keeping an eye on the digest for a while, now it's my turn to ask for help. Got a two column layout. Column one (left) is static and unchanging over all pages (sorry no url to refer you to). The right hand column varies. Here is the problem. What I would like to achieve is this
