G'Day Melly :)
I used to be like you....well I still am in many respect..
Im a hard core web developer..and its my passion that flow through my veins
every day..
I have been coding web since i was 14. and im now 23...
I lived off tables like a ravenous beast and only built for IE and NS...
About about 2-ish years ago, I heard about standards and "compliance"..
and I was "dibbling" in css...not really knowing what it was or how it
worked or why to do it.....
about 1 and half ago I decided to move to standards and learn about how to
make thing compliant...(and CSS design")
(They go hand in hand, CSS works way better when your document is VALID html
or XHTML (my preference is XHTML...I LUB LUB LUB it))
and it took me 3-6 months of online research and study to learn about, and
beleive me I HATED it with every bone in my body
mostly because I had to relearn everything i had learned up until that
time...but also because I had to filter through everything and
find what was "current" vs "not current" vs "What was supported" vs "what
was not supported" and rip apart web pages and see how they were laid out..
and how it made them ticked..and beleive me...W3C pages are GREAT for
reference document..but are very very lowsy (in my opinion) at tutoring how
to use them.
anyway the point of me talking to you from my high soap box, is do not give
up on CSS design, dont use tables..
once you start down the "path of the goldern light" with valid code and CSS
you will never be able to go back...it will be too hard - you will not
understand how or why you are struggling with
tabled designs..
beleive me my first xhtml web page....ekk...it sucked!
You will learn the basics and a whole heap of theory in 3-5 days on intense
training... but it isn't until you use it for a while will you see its true
colours and its true usefullness!
Heaps of luck

Subject: [css-d] Seeking intense CSS Training
I've been a hard core Web developer since 1992. It has only been in the
last 3 years that I've attempted to scatter CSS here and there to make a
few declarations or styles. In the last 6 months, it seems that CSS has
been practically rammed down my throat and I'm tired of spending tons of
time tweaking this stuff to get one thing to work while 5 things break and
nothing looks consistent across the realm of browsers/platforms I code
for. I'm at the point now where I've actually REMOVED 90% of my CSS and
resorted to (Oh my GAWD) a TABLE just to get one site to work. I can't
waste this kind of time with my workload.
I'm a hand coder. I don't use applications to build my code for me.
I'm looking for a 3-5 day INTENSE CSS course that takes me from the bare
bones to the elaborate so I can once and for all know why my CSS is broken
and how to fix it. And, how to build it the correct way out of the gate.
This course can be anywhere in the North East but I'm located on Long
Island, New York. Online courses and books won't cut it because I will get
interrupted/distracted constantly.
Can anyone offer suggestions/recommendations.
Thanks
